FAsQ (Frequently Asked search Questions)

March 11, 2006 edition
Where Google and Abby meet in a freak Sitemeter accident to answer your internet search inqueries.

DEAR GABBY:
what is climacteric -- RESEARCHING IN RESTON, VA
DEAR RESEARCHING:
Climacteric generally refers to a critical physiological period in one's life. It is synonymous with menopause, which is synonymous with "you're just going to have to deal with it whether you like it or not."

DEAR GABBY: video+haidl+rape -- ENTITLED IN LOS ANGELES, CA
DEAR ENTITLED:
No, you're not. Read on for more:

DEAR GABBY: entitlement behavior -- ASKING IN AMARILLO, TX
DEAR AMARILLO:
Entitlements are rights you are privileged to, simply by existing as a human being or by citizenship. Take the Bill of Rights. By law, you are entitled to things like freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, due process, and privacy. Ha! Just joking, bad example. Entitlement behavior would be acting as if you have the right to these things, when you really don't. A good example would be behaving like you are entitled to view private video evidence of a crime by searching for it on the internet, wherein three males behaved like they were entitled to stick several objects in another human being's private orifices while she was unconscious. They are not entitled to do this to another person, nor is anyone entitled to jack off to it, which is why we call it entitlement behavior.

Loser? Take charge of your life and turn it around. Write for Gabby's booklet, "How Your Shit Really Does Stink." Send a self-addressed, long, business-size clue up your ass and a reality check to your brain, c/o Biting Beaver's Friday Fun with Sitemeter.

Is it surprising that I was reading your post via RSS when I received notification of your comment here? Nah. :)

I thought I would post something more direct about it, but I tend to get snarky when the outrage is just too great. I've read details about the case ages ago, and I can't bring myself to seek it out again now. When I read it before, I could practically feel tens of thousands of women experience PTSD symptoms right then and there. And now some fuckwit comes along searching for the video.

DIE FUCKERS is not an unreasonable response.

Holy shit, were you really? Swear to god, the next time my period starts I'm gonna check with you.

My reaction to the case is extremely physical -- uncontrollable shaking and nausea. I think it's rage.

By the way, when I was searching for all the news and history on the case, one of the strings I tried was something like "Orange County gang rape videotape." As I've said to BB, some searches really are innocent.

LOL, please do! It's been almost 6 weeks since the start of my last one. I may drag you into early menopause with me!

I know the reaction. If you identify with it at all, it's very internalized, and... yeah.

Oh, I know some are innocent. This week was the first time I even had searches show up. The second search, though, knew enough to put "Haidl" in. While they may have put in "rape" to narrow results (not that they wouldn't all be at the top of the results anyway), the addition of "video" as the first term is what makes it come across as less innocent. Doesn't really matter. It served my purposes in being able to express some outrage over the case and tie it in to the "entitlement behavior" search at the same time. Call it creative license for the advancement of expression of outrage.

I think the most suspicious search I ever did was when looking to see what had become of a Texas case I read about one time. (I still don't remember the name!) So I probably put in "texas rape serial murder balcony release tub" or something. I had to try all kinds of different combos until I finally found what I was looking for.

As long as hits from incoming searches come in at a steady rate, I hope so!
