If I had known how easy a matrixectomy was, I'd have gone to the podiatrist years ago.

I had an abortion

No shame, no doubts, no regrets, and I'd do it again. Period.

Go ahead, say it. Say it however you want. Say it without reservation. Say it with your name attached or say it anonymously. Comments are moderated so that the spewings of asshats who have a problem with women making any decisions for themselves never see the light of day. Ever.

Top Ten Reasons Religion is Like Pornography

Top Ten Reasons Religion is Like Pornography

  1. It has been practiced for all of human history, in all cultures
  2. It exploits perfectly natural, even commendable, impulses
  3. Its virtues are debatable, its proponents fanatical
  4. People love it, but can't give a rational reason for it
  5. Objectifies and degrades women even when it worships them
  6. You want to wash up after shaking hands with any of its leaders
  7. The costumes are outrageous, the performances silly, the plots unbelievable
  8. There's nothing wrong with enjoying it, but it's nothing to be proud of, either
  9. It is not a sound basis for public policy, government, or international relations
  10. Its stars are totally fake

I charge contempt with the Government

Kip Hawley is an idiot. No, really. Kip Hawley is an idiot. Via Pharyngula, where the word is that Kip Hawley is an idiot.

$25

Kiva has been in my sidebar for a while now. They are an organization that arranges microloans in the developing world. Today one of the businesspersons I've been sponsoring completed repayment of her loan. This means I can either cash out the portion I loaned to her, or loan the money to someone else.

I've reloaned to the Kiva business currently featured and moved to the top of my sidebar, where it will stay until her loan is fully funded. $300 down, $650 to go! If you are interested in financing Melvis, or any other Kiva client, the best part is that it only takes as little as $25.

Normally I don't post about this stuff, as there are so many good causes and ways to contribute to them, and we each do what we can. But, this is just one that fires me up, and maybe it will fire someone else up, too.

Listen

There's so many things I want to address right now but I just can't do it. Here's the crux of it.

If you want to receive the benefit of the doubt, you must first earn it. You don't get it by default simply because you made your presence known. Yeah, I know, it's so, so difficult. Clam up and listen, really listen, before you open your trap. If you can't do that, you can simply fuck off.

Read into it what you want. I don't give a shit, because I'm tired of it. Just really, really tired of it.

The end.

Happiness is a Worn Pun

I slay me.

Happiness is personal, specific things for specific persons. It's what soothes and heals and balances and supports. It's those little cure-all's that never let you down.

A few of mine:

Early 70s funk and Peter Gabriel
Raku pottery and toy cameras
Warm colors and cool breezes
Dark chocolate, rhubarb pie, and...

I wish I could write like this, dammit

Gordo responds to a comment on his post about Dave Evans, the third Duke lacrosse player to be indicted.

Surely my hearty endorsement will boost his importance significantly! I should give him a heads-up on that.

Seriously, the comment is drop-dead awesome.

Naming names

Context? Start in the comments here on BB's Man Hater post.

Most of us have stories. Some of us tell them. They can go into great detail. What is the one detail left out more than any other? Names. Real names.

Blog/site idea: Naming Names. That's it.

Anonymously submitted, one by one. No locations, no dates, no details. Just names. The one thing that's never said elsewhere, would be the only thing that would be said here.

Blogger just got more accessible

Word Verification for All
This morning I noticed this little bugger next to the word verification field in the comments window. If you click on the accessibility icon, a series of numbers is spoken, and you just type those in. Now we're on the right track! Thank you, Blogger.

Now. How about Publishing for All?

Hopefully full support for publishing with the Opera browser will not be far behind (I have to use Firefox in order to use all the posting tools, including the one that let me include this image). Opera works on different platforms, is small, quick, loaded with features, and has the best accessibilty features for the visually impaired. Resizing web pages are a snap. Not just text, but images can be made up to 1000% larger and are rescaled to be more readable.

Accessibility is a beautiful thing. Don't stop working on it.

Stephen, I love you

The Word: Stephen Colbert needed a podium at the White House Correspondents Dinner beacause without it, the sheer weight of his Big Brass Truthiness Kahunas would have caused him to topple over.

P.S. Thank you

Diversionary Post #2: Men can stop rape

From Femivist:

Men - women cannot accomplish this on our own. If you hate rape (like many of you say you do), it is not women that you need to convince. It is other men. Just like survivors of sexual violence must speak out about our experiences, people (especially men) who hate rape and the culture that perpetuates it must make their voices heard as well. Which means, staying silent is actually speaking volumes. Looking the other way when you hear a male friend say something demeaning about a woman makes you an accomplice. Going to a strip club with your friends because you don’t want to appear “prude” or “gay” makes you an accomplice. Casually browsing porn on the Internet makes you an accomplice. Driving the getaway car does not make you innocent.
Would it help if you heard it from other men? Fine. Visit SafetyNet to find out what you can do.

Zero tolerance

A Clinton Township woman turned her husband in to police after she discovered child pornography on their home computer. Police arrested the man, who they say admitted to storing the porn, which contained explicit images of children from infant to school aged. The couple has a 3-year-old daughter, but police do not think she was harmed. The man is being held on a $25,000 bond. His wife has since filed for divorce.
No excuses. Zero tolerance. Hell flippin' yes.
